Mission of LHS's Consulting Services
The mission of the Lutheran Historical
Society (LHS) is to preserve, to document, and to stir interest in the rich
Lutheran traditions which are the foundation of the church in the middle Atlantic and adjoining areas.
In meeting this mission, the Society offers a variety of consulting services
designed to provide professional support for congregations seeking to
preserve and celebrate their histories. Experts provided by the Society
provide instruction and guidance, whether in a workshop format or in a
congregation-focused consultation. The following list describes some of the
specialized services which LHS provides:
Archives and Records Management
Selecting and maintaining historically valuable records and managing daily
records of the congregation.
Preservation and Conservation
Determining the proper strategies for preserving registers, records,
photographs, and other materials.
Celebrating Congregational
Anniversaries
Guidance and assistance in preparing for significant congregational
anniversaries or other special events.
Writing Church Histories
Practical techniques in researching and writing sound congregational
histories.
Genealogy
Assistance in using church records and other sources in tracing family
history.
Fees
Reasonable fees are charged for
workshops and consulting services. The exact amount depends upon the amount
of time involved and the number of personnel. Fees should be negotiated with
the lead instructor/consultant. We invite your inquiries.
Consultants
The Society maintains a list of experts
who are willing to offer their services in workshop and consultation formats
in each of the areas of specialization previously described. Responsibility
for providing satisfactory services remains that of the consultants. For
